Ireland to host new international arbitration hub

Ireland has been selected to host a new international arbitration hub, ICDR Ireland, as part of a wider effort to strengthen its position in cross-border dispute resolution. Announced by the Irish government together with the American Arbitration Association-International Centre for Dispute Resolution, the hub will handle international commercial arbitration matters across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The initiative builds on Ireland’s established position as a common law jurisdiction with strong international business links. According to the announcement, ICDR Ireland will operate with an advisory board and a panel of Irish arbitrators, with the government presenting the development as part of a broader strategy to reinforce Ireland’s attractiveness to international companies and dispute resolution users.

This development reflects continuing competition between jurisdictions to attract international arbitration work by investing in legal infrastructure, institutional capacity and reputational credibility. In that respect, the new hub is both a practical addition to Ireland’s dispute resolution framework and a signal of its wider ambitions in the global legal services market.
