The latest round of data collection on the legal profession in Germany has recently been launched. The Statistical Reporting System for Lawyers (STAR), commissioned by the Federal Bar Association and conducted by the Institute for Freelance Professions at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg since 1993, is inviting participation in its latest survey on the professional and financial situation of lawyers in Germany. This year’s research focuses on income, including annual earnings, revenue, operating costs, and factors such as specialisation, firm structure, location, and staffing levels. It also examines employment interruptions and restrictions.
The survey, running until 31 August 2025, aims to identify current trends and developments in the German legal profession. Participation is voluntary, anonymous, fully digital, and takes approximately 15–20 minutes. The organisers encourage lawyers across Germany to contribute, helping to provide valuable data for understanding and improving the sector’s professional and economic conditions. The results of the survey help the Federal Bar Association to respond to the needs of the profession.
