Victoria consults on its first Consumer Strategy

The Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner is developing its first Consumer Strategy to guide how it supports the profession to understand and respond to the needs of people who use legal services, need legal help or are affected by legal services in Victoria. The regulator says the strategy is intended to strengthen consumer protection, empower users of legal services, support improvements in the legal system and promote access to justice.

The consultation asks what challenges legal consumers are likely to face over the next three to five years, what market issues, risks or trends should shape the strategy, and what experience, data or research should inform the regulator’s approach. Written feedback is due by 5pm on Friday 16 October 2026. VLSB+C plans to publish a de-identified summary of feedback after the consultation and the final Consumer Strategy in 2027.
