On 20 August 2026, Administrative Review Tribunal President Justice Emilios Kyrou AO signed a new Practice Direction governing the use of generative AI in Tribunal proceedings. The direction is intended to explain the Tribunal’s approach and expectations for people using generative AI and to identify situations in which particular caution is required.
The Practice Direction also addresses circumstances in which a person must verify, explain or disclose the use of generative AI. It is to be read alongside the Tribunal’s Common Procedures and Expert Evidence practice directions, both of which were updated earlier in 2026. The Tribunal has also published a checklist to help users understand their obligations. The generative AI direction is the eighth practice direction published by the Tribunal.
