Enhanced productivity for law firms in Singapore with the integration of microsoft copilot into the legal technology platform

On 11 September 2024, the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) in Singapore, in collaboration with technology providers Lupl and Microsoft, has launched the ‘Copilot for SG Law Firms’ module, integrating Microsoft 365 Copilot into the Legal Technology Platform (LTP)[1]. This innovation positions the Ministry of Law’s LTP as one of the first sector-specific legal technology solutions in Singapore to incorporate generative AI capabilities. The new integration aims to enhance productivity and streamline workflows for legal professionals by automating routine tasks such as drafting status updates, tracking deadlines, and managing priorities, allowing law firms to focus on higher-value work and client services.

Key features of the AI-enabled LTP include AI-assisted matter scoping, real-time task and risk updates, deadline tracking, workload management, and AI-generated client communications. The platform operates through an intuitive natural language interface, effectively acting as a virtual legal project manager.

MinLaw, supported by Enterprise Singapore and the Infocomm Media Development Authority, is offering a 70% funding subsidy for law firms adopting the LTP and the ‘Copilot for SG Law Firms’ module through the Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG-Legal), available for up to two years for applications submitted before 31 March 2025.

MinLaw’s Second Minister, Mr. Edwin Tong SC, highlighted the transformative potential of this integration in enhancing efficiency and service delivery in the legal sector. Lupl’s CEO, Jeff Green, emphasized AI’s role in reducing administrative workload, while Microsoft Singapore’s Managing Director, Ms. Lee Hui Li, praised the initiative for setting a benchmark in AI-driven innovation within the legal industry.
