Québec’s Ministry of Justice, the Barreau du Québec and the Chambre des notaires have announced C$7.5 million in funding over three years to recruit 19 jurists and three administrative support staff through the provinces Info Justice centres. The new resources are to be distributed across Québec so that each jurist can support several community organisations, assist with the legal needs encountered by their clients and strengthen the capacity of frontline staff to recognise and respond to access-to-justice issues.
The initiative is intended to bring legal information, guidance and support closer to people in the community, before problems become more difficult to resolve. The participating jurists will work within their areas of expertise and are expected to support organisations serving families, women in vulnerable circumstances, young people and children, victims of crime, older people and immigrants. The project forms part of the wider Justice citoyens agreement concluded in April 2025, under which Québec’s justice institutions committed C$80 million to measures designed to expand first-line legal assistance and improve the accessibility of justice services.
