On 24 May 2025, Il Sole 24 Ore journalist Rossella Savojardo reported on the rise of Swot Legal, an Italian legal tech startup revolutionising how legal services are delivered through its “lawyer for hire” model. Founded in 2023 by seasoned legal professionals Ian Tully and Alessandra Del Bianco, Swot Legal offers companies and law firms on-demand legal consultants for fixed-term assignments, typically lasting six to nine months.
The company provides a pool of nearly 200 junior and senior lawyers with specialisations ranging from banking, insurance, and energy to AI, technology, and litigation. With fees ranging from €4,000 to €12,000 per month per assignment (excluding Swot Legal’s margin), the service is positioned as a cost-efficient alternative to traditional law firms—especially attractive to businesses needing quick access to highly specialised legal expertise without incurring permanent employment costs.
Law firms also utilise Swot Legal to cover talent gaps or secondments required by clients. For legal professionals, the platform offers flexibility, remote working options, and greater control over assignments. Swot Legal has already reached profitability and aims for €500,000 in turnover this year.
After establishing itself in Italy, Swot Legal has begun expanding to other European markets, including Malta, Cyprus, and Switzerland. It seeks to emulate the success of the U.S. legal staffing model, where approximately 70% of multinational corporations already use similar services, generating a $20 billion global market.
Swot Legal’s entry signals a significant shift in the legal profession, where agility, cost-efficiency, and expertise-on-demand are increasingly valued. Alongside players like Deloitte’s In2Law and Spain’s Ambar Partners, Swot Legal is shaping the future of legal resourcing across Europe.
